BMDMI Association of Churches Commissions First Missionaries
Juan Luis, Oneda, and their children
On Wednesday, April 13, at a special service of the Pastor’s Conference held at the Thomas Herrington Bible Institute, the association of churches- BMDMI, commissioned its first missionaries. Juan Luis and Oneda Lagos answered the challenge that I gave to the association one year ago in which I shared with the churches represented that the Great Commission was not only for the North American Churches but it was a commission given to us in Central America also. At this time, a committee was elected to interview candidates and to develop a mission plan. Initially consideration was given to two possible mission thrusts, to the Tolufanes tribe of Monte de Flor or to the Lincas and other ethnic groups of Intibucá/Lempira. Ultimately, the committee decided that their first mission thrust should be to the area of Intibucá/Lempira in order to strengthen the church-planting thrust that BMDMI had already begun in that area.
Juan Luis and Oneda are no strangers to initiating new work and church planting. Twelve years ago they left El Paraiso and moved to San Nicholas, Santa Barbara to plant the BMDMI’s first church in the Santa Barbara zone. They have had a very successful ministry in their church at San Nicholas and have also provided stable leadership for the other pastors of the zone. They have been very instrumental in the development of the six BMDMI churches in that zone.
Juan Luis has served as president of the association for the past two years and said, “Oneda and I are very much honored to be selected by the association to be their first missionaries. We know that we will not be the only ones, but believe that very soon the association will be sending others as well.”
Oneda shared, “It is a difficult and sad time for us as we leave our home and our church. Both of our children were born in San Nicholas and this is home for us. We will miss our friends and church members; but we are excited about the new opportunity that God has given to us.

PASTOR'S CONFERENCE
 Marina Calderon
On April 12-13 the Bible Institute hosted the pastor's conference of BMDMI churches, with more than 110 attending. The emphasis of the training was Sunday School Development. The teaching was brought by Rev. Jorge Morga, a pastor in Tegucigalpa. Marina Calderon was the coordinator of the conference and shared the following; “All the pastors are so excited about Sunday School. For many years the churches had Sunday School only for the children. But, now nearly all of them have three classes for children, at least one and sometimes two classes for young people, and two classes for adults. It is such a blessing and encouragement to me to see so many churches having well organized classes.”
In addition to the teaching, worship and fellowship, the pastors received gifts of clothes and shoes. We are so thankful to the team members who bring clothes and leave them for our pastors and their families. Arnaldo Flores, pastor of the Ocotal church, said, "The clothes that BMDMI and the teams give to us are such a tremendous blessing. My wife and I have not had to buy any clothes for more than seven years. I cannot tell you how much this means to us."

SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY CLASS
Dr. Randy Creel of Linden, Alabama came to Honduras in April to teach the fifth of a series of ten lectures on Systematic Theology. The pastors who attend these classes have previously completed one of our other institute’s pastoral training programs. Dr. Creel said, “It is indeed an honor and a privilege for me to be able to come and teach in the program. I really do enjoy the interaction and discussion with the pastors. They have impressed me with their depth of understanding of the Word and their commitment to the Lord and to their churches. I thank BMDMI for the opportunity to participate in this program. The training that these men receive through the various opportunities provided by BMDMI is very excellent and appropriate to their ministries.

CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES ON NEW CHAPEL AT INSTITUTE
The new chapel at the Bible Institute is almost completed and work continues. The floor was installed this month and the contract for the windows has been let. We are at a point at which we must decide how we are going to proceed with the construction. We have used all he funds that we had designated for this project and still need about $30,000 to complete the building. We are giving consideration to just closing the opening with a temporary wall until more funds can be raised. I thank all of you who have donated to this project. You have been very generous. This new chapel will be a tremendous blessing to the Institute and to the Mission. We are hoping that 25 people will commit to give $100 per month for 12 months. With these commitments we could go ahead and finish the building now. If you would like to be one of these 25, please let me know and we will continue to finish the building if we have sufficient pledges.
