The caravan of 2 buses and 3 trucks laden with our cargo arrived at Villa Santa. The 50 mile trip took 4 hours! We were greeted with excitement, anticipation, and inquisitive looks from the villagers. In the chaos of unloading and getting camp set up, we appeared like ants on a mound working fervently with curious eyes watching every move.
Our mission had begun or was it just a coincidence we were there? Was it just a coincidence that there was a labor and delivery nurse and a doctor there to stabilize a young woman who had just miscarried her baby and went with her to the hospital 2 hours away? Bro. Kent received a message just before he began to preach at the evening service that if this team had not been here, she would have died. Not only was a life saved, but the young woman and her sister-in-law received Jesus into their heart!
Was it just a coincidence that the vet team did not have many animals to treat in the village, but went into the mountains seeking
farms and livestock? It was too far for them to come to the village, but in their search for animals, their search for souls was also found. There were 44 people who made professions of faith in their search through the mountains!
Was it just a coincidence that a pair of glasses was specially made for a boy who could not see very well? Was it just a coincidence that we had a respiratory therapist there to treat a young girl having difficulty breathing and needed breathing treatments twice a day? Was it just a coincidence that the Children's Church team did such a great job that on the last day there were over 300 children in attendance? And the last night under the worship tent, the kids sang "Jesus Loves Me" in English!
During our time in Santa Villa, there would be 3,020 medical patients treated, 709 teeth pulled, 14,081 prescriptions filled, 248 prescription eye glasses and numerous reading glasses distributed, 844 animals treated, 369 boxes of clothes, shoes, hygiene kits, and infant kits given and 1,363 meals served!
Was it just a coincidence that 88 people accepted Christ as their personal Savior? Was our mission just a coincidence?
